This installation, inspired by Marina Abramovic’s Cleaning the Mirror, is intended to be a commentary on consumption and decay, as well as the ethics of a privileged culture. A soundtrack to the decay of a piece of meat, the media of the work, frivolously placed in the center of an area for meditation, remark on the overzealous appetite, often bred into every level of American society. This one piece of meat, purchased with cash for $2.11, would certainly be a welcome meal in many parts of the world, but has been offered into this area of contemplation to parasites, representing the smaller, even molecular consumption that knowledge or an influx of information can be, once set in motion. More specifically, something heard cannot be unheard, the same way that any knowledge gained cannot be lost unless forgotten, only furthering the inspection of a frivolous, privileged society.
