| Denton Snow came about as an aesthetic response to the imagery, environment, and experience of Denton. The association of certain colors and textures with the area prompted a desire to more directly relate this palette with its source through an existing system of connection and correlation. The use of interior-decorating sample paint chips available at home improvement stores lent itself to this use perfectly. The concentrated study of these slips of paper in their displays is one of the few forums in which our culture closely considers the relationships of colors and the subtle implication and influence of hue, tint, and shade within and between families of produced, marketed, and haplessly named colors. Inserting our perception of Denton’s palette, both visual and experiential, into this system both manifests an intangible quality of life in Denton and plants the seed of an awareness of color relationships in a world beyond the pick-and-choose color menus of Behr and Glidden. |
