Out of Site: An Altered Environment is a collaborative project, situated in Denton, Texas, between 58 local artists and the space & community in which they exist. This project initiates a dialogue between the everyday and the unexpected and encourages a closer investigation of the places that the artists and the community in Denton experience daily.

Curated by artist Jessica McCambly, 58 artists were given the task of finding a specific place, known only to them and other Out of Site participating artists, in Denton, Texas where they could unveil a portable site specific work. These artworks that are motivated conceptually or visually by the place they inhabit are meant to be found and, if so desired, taken. Once installed, the pieces are free to exist in their space indefinitely. If a piece is found, the person who found it is free to take the piece or leave it. If left, the piece will remain to react to the elements of the experience. This is not a scavenger hunt. There will not be a map or clues of any kind published or released. The artists have documented their work for this site, which will be the only place to view these works unless you happen upon one in Denton, Texas.

This project takes art out of the gallery, thereby broadening the audience exponentially. People who may never have had any tangible experience with art can have one on accident whether or not they want to. Their reactions will vary, but they will react and ponder the experience regardless.
